“But his wife, from behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.” Genesis 19:26;

[King Cyrus decree] “’Whatever is needed, both young bulls, rams, and lambs for a burnt offering to the God of heaven, and wheat, salt, wine and anointing oil, as the priests in Jerusalem request, it is to be given to them daily without fail, that they may offer acceptable sacrifices to the God of heaven and pray for the life of the king and his sons.’” Ezra 6:9;

[Job answering his friends] “’Can something tasteless be eaten without salt, or is there any taste in the white of an egg?’” Job 6:6;

[Jesus speaking] “’You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how cdan it be made salty again?  It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.’” Matthew 5:13

We would all agree with Job’s statement.  Salt seems an insignificant part of God’s creation, and yet it is mentioned a surprising number of ways in the Bible -- as a flavour enhancer, for purification, healing, preserving, cleaning, de-toxifying.  Roman soldiers were paid in salt because it was so valuable (which is the origin of the word salary and ‘being worth your salt’).

It was also used in harmful ways - to throw salt onto the ground would prevent crops from growing for conquered nations.  (Surprisingly, Australia (a continent about 85 percent the size of the USA) has only 6.55 percent arable/ useable land and much of this is because there is too much salt in the soil to grow things.)

Did you know that someone in the church believe the ‘last war’ mentioned in the Book of Revelation, will begin over Israel because of the salt in the Dead Sea?  This body of water is almost 35 percent salt and is one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world (about 10 times saltier than the ocean).  Who knows what the future will bring, we must trust the Father to know what is best.

 NOTES:  I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses.  They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.

The Five Solas:  Individuals are saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone to the glory of God alone!
