Thank You for Sharing
“When the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and the apostles with Him. And He said to them, ‘I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I say to you, I shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.’
“And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He said, ‘Take this and share it among yourselves; for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.’
“And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’ And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, ‘This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.’” Luke 22:10-20
Did you notice the word ‘share’? It is one of the first difficult lessons a child learns and that is part of our thinking for life as a Christian. Here, this word helps us understand five principles of this observance:
The Lord’s Supper is a shared, corporate act -- not a private or purely individual one. As believers we take communion together because we are individual parts of the one body of Christ.
When we share the one cup/ bread it symbolizes oneness among those who belong to Christ (1 Corinthians 10:16–17 -- the cup of blessing is a participation in the blood of Christ).
We share equally -- ‘among yourselves’ all believers participate equally. No one is left out. No one is given preferential access.
The observance reminds us that we share in the future of hope in the coming kingdom.
You and I, at this very moment, share in the full new-covenant that resulted from Jesus’ death and resurrection that points to the shared life and blessings of God’s people gathered around Christ.

NOTES: I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.
The Five Solas: Individuals are saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone to the glory of God alone!
