Thanks for Mary’s Prayer

“And Mary said:  ‘My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour.  For He has regard for the humble state of His bondslave; for behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed.

“’For the Mighty One has done great things for me; and holy is His name.  And His mercy is upon generation after generation toward those who fear Him.  He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart.

“’He has brought down rulers from their thrones, and has exalted those who were humble.  He has filled the hungry with Good things; and sent away the rich empty-handed.  He has given help to Israel His servant, in remembrance of his mercy, as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his descendants forever.’” Luke 1:46–55

This is, of course, Mary’s humble and thankful prayer.  It is filled with her list of God’s blessings, especially that He would include her in the fulfilment of God’s redemptive plan.  These are blessings we can all be thankful for:

Even though His holiness exceeds our understanding, nevertheless, He regards us when we are humble.  His mercy (and justice) planned a world of steps to bring each of us to His throne of grace where we can receive His overflowing mercy.

Our Father does mighty deeds and rejects the proud.  He raises up and brings down rulers.  He never fails to supply each of us with our needs (not our wants).   He turns His back on the proud.

Two helpful definitions:

·       Pride = refusing to accept God’s gift or to take credit for what God has done/ is doing.

·       Humility = accepting the unique gifts and opportunities we are given and wisely and thoughtfully using them to praise and serve God.

NOTES:  I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses.  They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.

The Five Solas:  Individuals are saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone to the glory of God alone!
