Good Or Bad About Sin

“Then the Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, ‘I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.  If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.  ‘” II Chronicles 7:2-114

“Therefore, thus says the Lord, ‘If you return, then I will restore you – before Me you will stand; and if you extract the precious from the worthless, you will become My spokesman.  They for their part may turn to you, but as for you, you must not turn to them.” Jeremiah 15:19

“The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” II Peter 3:9

“If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.” I John 1:8-10

God calls us to come to Him with clean hands (whether for the first time or after we have given our lives to Jesus to save).  To ‘wash our hands’ we must repent from sin (I John 1:9).

It is normal to feel good or bad about our sin.  Sin is crafty and can hide in our hearts so deeply and subtly we no longer feel anything from it -- or we can dwell on it so deeply we are completely compromised in our walk.

What we must avoid is waiting to feel something from confessing and repenting (relief, satisfaction, an improved intimacy with God).  Because the temptation when we don’t feel anything is to grow lax or hesitant to approach the throne of grace to obtain mercy.  God ALWAYS forgives our sin even regardless of how we feel.

NOTES:  I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses.  They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.

The Five Solas:  Individuals are saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone to the glory of God alone!
