“Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the Lord, and He will have compassion on him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.
“’For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, ‘ declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; it will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding the matter for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:6-11
I remember hearing the story of Brother Andrew, who risked his life countless times in obedience to his calling to bring Bibles into the hands of those who lived in countries where it was forbidden to have a copy.
One story left a deep impression on me. It was about a man in China, living under the dictator, Mao Zedong. He like many in China longed for a Bible. But they were forbidden under a penalty of death.
When Brother Andrew brought Bibles to China they would be secretly distributed. Often, those who received a copy would tear the pages apart and share the pages with family and trusted friends. Yes, just pages.
But the pages had to be carefully hidden because it was death sentence if they were discovered. The man in the true story carved a hollow place in the heel of his shoe, folded the page into a very small size and secured his page there.
I still can’t imagine that. Yet, no matter where the receivers hid these pages, they revered the words on the pages and many gave their lives to the Lord, just from the power of God’s Word -- on one page. Imagine that!
What if they received a page from Leviticus, Ezekiel or Revelation that could easily seem, not just mysterious, but nonsense. Yet our God is not limited by our imagination. His power reigns through His Word to capture our hearts. And it was for this reason that Brother Andrew is remembered today!

NOTES: I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.
The Five Solas: Individuals are saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone to the glory of God alone!
