Can You Sit In That Chair?

“Now faith is the assurance – the title deed, confirmation – of things hoped for and divinely guaranteed, and the evidence of things not seen – the conviction of their reality – faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses.  For by this kind of faith the men of old gained divine approval.

“By faith, that is with an inherent trust and enduring confidence in the power, wisdom and goodness of God, we understand that the worlds, universe and ages were framed and created – formed, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose, by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.”
Hebrews 11:1-2 – The Amplified Bible

Have you ever tried to share with someone who is resistant to believe in the Gospel message?  I certainly have.  Think of Thomas (the first doubter), who missed seeing the risen Christ the first time He appeared to His disciples who said, ‘Unless I see in His hands the marks of the nails, and put my finger into the nail prints, and put my hand into His side, I will never believe.’ (John 20:25).

We have all had moments where our doubts seem to outweigh our faith.  Yet, we must remember the Bible tells us that although many are seeking a sign before they can believe, the Bible tells us no sign will be given to them (Matthew 16:4) because faith requires stepping out in trust.

Evangelism Explosion Ministry illustrated this easily with a chair.  They would point to a chair in the room and ask if it looked like it would hold someone.  The answer is obvious, of course.  The question is… ‘Do you have enough faith in the strength of the chair to sit in it?’  Easter holidays are over.  For all the fanfare, chocolate and time away from work, the question remains …are we sitting comfortably in His chair?

NOTES:  I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses.  They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.

The Five Solas:  Individuals are saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone to the glory of God alone!
