Thankful Relief!
“Now it came about in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, on the first of the month, the water was dried up from the earth… Then God spoke to Noah, saying, ‘Go out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and your sons’ wives with you. Bring out with you every living thing of all flesh that is with you, birds and animals and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, that they may breed abundantly on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.’
“So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him. Every beast, every creeping thing, and every bird, everything that moves on the earth went out by their families from the ark.
“Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the Lord smelled the soothing aroma; and the Lord said to Himself, ‘I will never again curse the ground on account of man, for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again destroy every living thing, as I have done.’” Genesis 8:13,15-21
As a toddler, my Mom bought me The Big Golden Book of the Bible. I poured over those pages as my Mom read the stories to me, but it was Noah’s Ark that was my favourite. I still have that book (quite tattered, but deeply important to my growing up).
I always wondered how it must have felt to be on that ark and know the fear of everything being destroyed …all the calls of the other people drowning with no hope of rescue. How it must have hurt the hearts of the eight passengers.
Yet, God had -- and still has -- a plan for this world that we can never hope to understand. But each of us has the choice to trust Him or not. Noah must have been overwhelmed with thanksgiving when he and his family were saved out of the world of drowning humanity.
Now, we too are surrounded by a ‘drowning’ humanity and have the choice to pray and extend our hand to those who are yearning for hope!

NOTES: I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.
The Five Solas: Individuals are saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone to the glory of God alone!
